What exactly is a Caffè Mocha coffee drink? (and how do you say it?)

A Caffè Mocha coffee drink is, in its most basic form, a hot chocolate with a shot of espresso.

The Caffè Mocha explained

The Caffè Mocha goes by a number of different names, all meaning more or less the same thing.

It will sometimes, and most commonly just be called a Mocha. Other variations include the Mocaccino or Mochaccino, or if you’re bored and want another variation, the Mochachino.

The name comes from the city of Mocha in Yemen, but no one seems to know if this is where it actually came from.

If you’re British, you should really say mock-a, but for those with an American inclination, we’ll let you off for saying moak-a. But it sounds weird like that, just stick with the British version.

Either way the Caffè Mocha is based on espresso and hot milk with added chocolate. The chocolate can take a variety of different forms but is often cocoa powder and sugar, chocolate syrup, or even real chocolate.

It can be presented a number of different ways, most often poured like a Caffè Latte, or else served with whipped cream on top.

Want to bling it up?

Add a dusting of cinnamon, chocolate, marshmallows or unicorn dust on top. Not sure what unicorn dust is? We’re not sure either, but we’re pretty certain unicorns get dusty if they’re left in a corner too long.
