The QUPP by Hybrid Cup: Giving us more questions than answers

We recently discovered the QUPP—a disposable coffee cup with an integrated stirrer—and after the initial curiosity and excitement wore off, we were left a little disappointed.

Here’s the concept from QUPP:

It’s “the only cup that eliminates stirrers” because it comes with a stirring tab built in to the cup. Once your drink is poured, start tugging the tab and the paper paddle does all the work.

It’s made from FSC certified paper, and has a “non-plastic lining” that “ensures 100% recoverability”.

Even more interesting is their statement that the QUPP is “made entirely from paper” and is “100% recyclable & compostable”.

Here’s the QUPP video overview:

So why are we sceptical?

Well it seems like a great concept, but also a little bit wasteful: what about all the people who never use stirrers anyway? They don’t have a choice!

Secondly, are you going to have to educate every single user how to use the stirrer? Because stupid people still exist!

Lastly, we’d love to know more about the lining of the cup; it’s apparently made entirely of paper, so if this is the case, it would be a massive step forward anyway.
