Trainers Made From 21 Cups of Coffee and 6 Plastic Bottles

Trainers made from coffee? You heard us right!

As keen runners and coffee drinkers, we are always on the lookout for the latest products, innovations and news relating to either running or coffee. Imagine then when we discovered that you can get trainers made from coffee! That’s got to be worth reporting on right? in fact, we may be a little late to the party as these trainers have been around a couple of years now.

As well as their original range of trainers, they also offer the Nomad range – designed for athletes and billed as the all-in-one waterproof coffee shoe. When we get our hands on a pair we will of course be trying them out. In the meantime, let’s discuss these trainers made from coffee from Finnish company Rens that discovered a way to turn old coffee and plastic bottles into trainers.

Who Are Rens?

Somewhere in the heart of Helsinki, Finland, the company began as conversation between two trainer enthusiasts about the environmental impacts of the global trainer industry and the less than stylish options already on the market. With fashion being the second-worst offending pollutant in the world, they were committed to making a difference. Their journey evolved and the first coffee trainer was launched to the world in 2019. Since then the company has gone from strength to strength and now thousands of these eco-friendly trainers are sold around the globe.

What Are These Trainers Made From Coffee?

Available in 9 different colours, waterproof and pretty funky looking, each pair of sneakers is made from 21 cups of coffee and 6 plastic bottles. The company wanted to find ways to reduce carbon footprint (pardon the pun) and they have certainly done this with these innovative kicks. Producing these trainers means that less waste ends up in landfill with less methane emissions. Everyone is a winner, right?

Each pair features:

  • 100% recycled upper made from coffee & recycled plastic
  • Completely recycled waterproof membrane
  • Fully recycled polyester sock liner on removable insole
  • BPA-free high-performance midsole
  • All natural rubber outsole

Features of the Nomad range

  • Moisture-wicking, quick-drying
  • All terrain, all weather grip
  • Active odor-control
  • 100% vegan
  • Laces made from plastic bottles
  • Soft cushioning for hard landings
  • Removable insole
These shoes are designed to take your from the trail to the street!

You might think that this kind of technology means that you will be paying a handsome price for a pair of trainers however, we think that a price point of £119 or £99 is pretty reasonable, especially for those who think nothing of spending in excess of £100 on the latest trends.
