McDonalds makes a McMockery of pretentious coffee ads (with a large helping of cynicism)

Is McDonald’s coffee the best coffee in the world? Quite possibly not – and we’re not going to debate that here, we know what y’all think. But is it cheap (reasonably) consistent? Hell yeah. Have a look at these McDonalds coffee ads and see what you think.

So it seems that McD’s are openly acknowledging the fact that they’re not the coffee for the nerds and hipsters, and take a brilliant dig at all the brands that feel the need to over dramatise their drinks with elaborate, clichéd advertisements.

McDonalds coffee ads: “Simplicity, quality and a fair price”

César & Pjotr, the creatives behind the ads say that “The world of coffee has gone a bit mad, with brands advertising their products in absurdly pretentious ways. McDonald’s, on the other hand, is all about simplicity, quality and a fair price.”

They proceed to make a mild McMockery of the OTT, highly staged hipster coffee ads out there with a series of short videos: Starting with a cup of coffee in a beautifully styled setting before being grabbed out of the frame and unceremoniously plonked on a plain background, with the tagline “Great tasting coffee, simple”.

But there’s a curiously ironic twist with these McDonalds coffee ads; they’re using the very clichés they mock to draw you in.

But they’re darned good. We like them more than we like their coffee. And that’s the main thing, right? Here they are, drink them in.
