Sparkling Caffeine Water. It’s a real thing, but we’re not sold (on the plastic)

The Swedish Coffee Roaster Löfbergs produces an unusual product: Sparkling Caffeine Water: “Spikes up like coffee and quenches thirst like water”. Would you drink it?

Let’s start with the positives

OK, it’s unique, it’s interesting, it’s fizzy, it’s flavoured, and it’s got caffeine. They say “Löfbergs Caffeine Water is an energizing drink made of Swedish spring water and flavoured with natural fruits.” And credit to the photographers, they’ve made a plastic bottle look reasonably cool. Get an eyeful below:

But really, why caffeine water? And why the plastic bottles?

OK, it’s got no added sugar, and it’s sweetened with natural fruit extracts. They say it’s “Perfect for the conscious and healthy consumer who is looking for a naturally refreshing product without a long list of content.”

But it does seem like a curious time to be launching a product in a single-use plastic bottle, when the whole “plastic wave” is facing so much backlash, and rightly so. They do say that “By 2020, all our packaging will contain plastic from renewable resources” and “By 2030, all our packaging will be made from 100% recycled or renewable material.”

We’d rather go without the plastic for now.
