Caffeinated Donuts – really?
We’re all in favour of innovation, and if it breaks us out of the stodgy old way of “we’ve always done it this way”, then we’re all for it. And the Americans seem to be pretty good at it.

But in our humble opinion, which no one asked for, we think that these Hostess Boost Jumbo Donettes are a step too far in terrible “Americanization”.
What are Hostess Boost Caffeinated Jumbo Donettes?
What are they?
They’re a contradiction, that’s what they are.
A “donette” is a mini donut. And these are Jumbo Donettes, which makes them Big Small Donuts.
And these ones come with added caffeine, so you can tuck down a caffeine-laden sugar bomb, in place of drinking a nice, healthy, classy coffee.
They come in two flavours; Chocolate Mocha and Caramel Macchiato. Each Big Small Donut contains around 50-70 milligrams of caffeine.
According to Christopher Balach, general manager of Hostess Brands, LLC, they are “For adults who are increasingly looking for alternative sources of caffeine, our new Hostess Boost Jumbo Donettes offer a tasty, energy-boosting, grab-and-go way to jumpstart the day”.
Don’t mention the calories.
It has more E numbers than Ethylenediaminetetraacetate and enough preservatives to keep a teenager fresh for a week.
Anyway, are we overreacting? Probably.
Because deep down, we know that there is probably a time and place for one of these things.
