Silly Goose Coffee: Serious about Sustainability (and being silly)

Silly Goose Coffee was founded by four friends from the UK, New Zealand and South Africa, who grew up with a love of the outdoors and good times. Now we are a little more grown up, but we think the world has gotten way too serious. So, we set out to do something about it.

We are mainly a direct to consumer brand, sending out bags of whole bean and ground coffee. This includes our 100% home compostable pods. We have mail slot friendly boxes, so it turns up right on your door mat. Subscribe, and you don’t even have to remember to order!

We do both CBD infused and regular coffee, but people are often pretty intrigued by our CBD/Coffee combo. After all, CBD is known to improve sleep quality, and coffee is the world’s pick-me-up. So, while they may seem like strange bedfellows, silly even, they actually work fantastically together.

How does CBD and Caffeine work together?

The CBD has the effect of smoothing the spikes and crashes of caffeine, and in the right dose can actually improve alertness and focus. And, while it is true that CBD can improve sleep quality it has that effect over time. So a sure-fire way to remember to take your CBD in the morning is a win for a restful sleep at night. (who ever forgot to have their morning coffee?). There are also loads of general wellness effects associated with regularly taking CBD, from exercise recovery, to anxiety reduction. While the science is young, we believe that CBD is here to stay, and it’s true wonders are yet to be fully understood.

Silly Goose Coffee and the environment

One thing that’s gotten intensely serious is our effect on the environment, that’s why sustainability is at the heart of everything we do, for us it’s table stakes. Our coffee is sustainably farmed and ethically sourced, and our pods are 100% home compostable. We also work with Ecologi to plant trees to offset our unavoidable carbon footprint. We know that for the most part coffee is part of the problem; it’s a massive industry engaged in something of a race to the bottom on cost. But we believe that with better practices it can be part of the solution, and that if you give people that choice, they will be glad to make it.

Are we doing good?

We know that there are plenty of awesome coffee brands out there playing in the sustainability space, which is fantastic. But we are always looking for a way to stand out, to go further and inject a little joy into the world. Ultimately, we’re always asking ourselves if what we’re doing is good. Good for the planet, good for the community and good for our customers. And if the answer is no, we don’t do it.
