The new factory will be based in Peterborough, which is also famous for nothing that we know of, until now.

The factory is expected to launch early 2023 and will produce 300m litres of Oatly milk substitute per year, with the potential to grow to 450m litres.

According to Oatly, the oats will be sourced from the UK and Oat Milk will supply the UK market, where demand for vegan options has gone through the roof in recent years.

They’re aiming to use all renewable energy at the factory and cut its energy and water use by 75% at the site by 2029, compared with its environmental footprint in 2019.

Ishen Paran, Oatly UK GM said “Questions about a potential UK factory have been circulating for a while, and we’re really excited to finally announce the news of its arrival in 2023. The UK is a really important driver of the global plant-based movement, with growing demand for Oatly across the country, and we’re excited to supply this increased demand.”

Finally, something for Peterborough to be proud of.  Moo-sic to their ears.

And while we’re here, a few Oatly ads:

Just because we like them.
