Top 2022 Coffee Trends: Snapchilled Coffee

Freshness matters! Cold brew coffee saw a boom in 2020 and 2021, but it’s now being overtaken by snapchilled coffee.

The process takes freshly brewed coffee and cools it very quickly (a matter of seconds), which extracts more flavours and more appealing aromas than the cold brewing process. It’s then sealed in cans. Snapchilled coffee also doesn’t take as long to make as cold brew, and there’s no dilution of the coffee by adding ice cubes. Snapchilled coffee will start to appear in coffee shops in 2022, and when some of the larger chains adopt it then there will be no stopping.

2022 Coffee Trends: Adaptogens in Coffee

2022 Coffee Trends

Adaptogens are herbal, mushroom, or other natural extracts which are used to enhance cognitive function, amongst other things.

They are marketed stating they improve mental clarity, motivation, memory, focus, and overall mood, although their effectiveness is somewhat unproven.

Expect to see more brands adding adaptogens to coffee, including instant coffee, to give coffee more health benefits.

Matcha Coffee and Matcha Latte

Matcha is an additive with loads of great health benefits and antioxidants packaged up. Adding this to coffee has become one of the latest trends because it has a lower caffeine content and gives you a less intense boost.

Alternatively, you can skip out the coffee altogether and just make a matcha latte.

Dairy Alternatives in Coffee: a top 2022 Coffee Trend

With major chains giving more options, reduced fat and low sugar dairy alternatives have seen a huge increase. Some of these include soy or almond milk. Expect other more obscure options to pop up in 2022.

Ready to Drink Bottled and Canned Coffee

2022 Coffee Trends

As people get busier again after the recent lockdowns, convenience will be king. More and more brands are offering canned iced coffee, cold brew, nitro cold brew and snapchilled coffee in handy ready to drink bottles and cans.

This trend is only going one way, and that’s up!

Steeped Coffee and Coffee Bags

Another one that’s been boosted by the pandemic, coffee roasters have been putting coffee in bags, much like tea bags. This is a great upgrade from instant coffee but with zero investment needed for any coffee brewing kit.

Hard Coffee

2022 Coffee Trends

This is one that’s bucking the healthy trend!

Coffee and alcohol are two things a lot of people love, but when mixed together they can give you a peculiar kick that people are loving.

Hard tea and drinks like kombucha are taking off, consumers love the convenience and quality of these beverages. With new ways to enjoy the drinks they have loved for so long this trend isn’t going away anytime soon. Other beverages like seltzers are also on the rise and this whole industry is in its very early stages so there is a lot of potential growth with this trend.

Coffee In-speriences:

With the prevalence of lockdowns across the world, many people missed the experiences they had when eating and drinking beverages outside. Many even tried to recreate their favourite dishes and beverages at home. To help customers create cafe-like in-speriences at home, many companies provided them with the recipes and the right list of ingredients required to create cafe style coffee at home. Costa Coffee is one example. As different variants of the Coronavirus keep coming, it is likely that in-speriences will remain popular even during the next year.
