Get Blue Bottle Coffee from a “Lockercafe” in Japan

Blue Bottle Coffee Lockercafe: Contactless coffee has become quite the thing this year, with everyone trying to get in on the game. There have been various innovations, including ones where you can actually make coffee just by looking.

But this one, a collaboration between Blue Bottle Coffee and root C is one of the most interesting ones we’ve seen so far.

It’s a pop-up coffee shop in Shibuya Scramble, Japan, and is only running until the February ’22.

How the Blue Bottle Coffee Lockercafe works

To order your drink, you head to the ordering screen and choose your drink. Once the order is placed and paid for, a barista creates the drink on the other side of the bank of lockers and puts in in the locker. Once that’s done, the locker glows and ta-daaaa, you collect your drink.

It seems like the root C system has a mobile app to order as well, but we can’t find anything to say that the Blue Bottle Coffee store offers this option.

It’s an interesting concept, and quite apart from the contactless aspect, it’s a great way to separate grumpy baristas from fussy customers.
