Roaster Focus: We’re going ape over Two Chimps Coffee

Sometimes we get a bit too serious about life, stuff, and coffee in particular. So we’re super-excited to spotlight this beautifully unusual coffee roastery and their quirky troop.

But no mistake, they’re not monkeying around when it comes to sustainability.

Who are these crazy anthropoids?

Despite their fun exterior, Two Chimps are on a mission: their mission is “to fill the gap between pod machine coffee drinkers and speciality coffee drinkers by offering fresh, hand-roasted speciality coffee straight to your door.”

Two Chimps Coffee was founded by Andy and Laura. Andy says that he’s “responsible for the coffee side of things and making sure our coffee is always the best. This involves sourcing and buying green coffee, collecting the green coffee, roasting and then delivering.”

Laura says “I answer the phone, make phone calls and reply to emails. I help pack all of the coffee orders too. Lastly, I assist Ellie with our social media and marketing.”

Speciality coffee can get rather snobby and elitist at times, and while there’s a place for that, sometimes is just a wee bit inaccessible for the average guy or gal like you and me who want a nice cup, without the highbrowism and techy bits.

This is where Two Chimps comes in. “We want to introduce you to better coffee, but in a fun and down to earth way. What is more fun than two chimps?”

Hear, hear! Or should we beat our chests and say “Hooo, hooo”?

How about the coffee?

Two Chimps are pretty serious when it comes to sourcing coffee.

They only roast ethically sourced single origin coffees. They pay between 30 and 150% more than the standard market price for green beans to make sure that the farmers and smallholders get their fair share of profits.

Because they only roast single origin coffees, their range is flexible and changes with the seasons. They aim to keep at least six coffees in their range at any given time. It’s all very high quality stuff, and they insist on coffee that scores 80 points or above.

Impressive!

The coffee names are hilarious. Fancy some “Oodles of Ongles”? No probs. Feel like “Canoeing in a Cornish Pasty”? Whatever floats your boat. Do you want to “Have Faith in Fairies”? You can. Do you need “More Coal for The Internet”? Sure everyone does at some point. We could go on. Want some decaf “Knitting Badger”? They’ve got it. Check ’em out.

Two Chimps Coffee and Sustainability

Apart from their coffee being Direct Trade, they operate a climate positive roastery.

They’ve joined forces with Ecologi and plant a tree when you join their troop.

Check out their post about their Climate Positive Roastery.

Don’t forget to mention the website!

Ah, yes.

The Two Chimps Coffee website is insane, and was created by the very talented peeps at herdl. Look them up, it’s worth it.

In a world of same-y coffee sites, their website is very quirky, wonky and scrolls all over the place. It earned an honourable mention on awwwards.com. Go on, have a browse, it’s worth it!

Wrapping it all up

If you’re wanting to drink amazing quality, ethically sourced, small-batch roasted speciality coffee, but want to have fun in the process, you’ve come to the right place. https://twochimpscoffee.com/
